LITTLE CAESARS AREANA-THE WINGED WHEEL/JEWEL SKIN

It’s not often that you have an opportunity to craft an experience and design something iconic for a brand new stadium. Chevrolet has always been a major sponsor of the Detroit Red Wings and as the official vehicle of LCA and the Detroit Red Wings we wanted to do something big for the new stadium. We created a 10 ft, 772 lb Red Wings winged wheel sculpture made entirely out of 186 Chevrolet car parts (including a 100 year old truck center cap). Tomas Vitanovsky , a former motorcycle daredevil and metal sculptor was flown in from his native Czech Republic. Over 700 hours of work was put into this piece from the first sketches to the final installation. The Winged Wheel is displayed proudly and promonately within the Chevrolet entrance at LCA. It has gained a lot of press and plenty of intention on social media. A favorite background for wings fans selfies.

The Winged Wheel Construction

I designed the Jewel Skin and jumbotron animations for LCA as well. The Jewel Skin is a faceted video board that wraps around the entire interior of the stadium. The end result was a highly visible, impactful brand animation mixed with real footage showcasing three Chevrolet vehicles, the Equinox, Colorado ZR2 and the Silverado.
